Yasukuni Shrine (Yasukuni Jinja) is the Shinto shrine where soldiers who died are enshrined. Yasukuni Shrine has been holding the Lantern festival from 13 to 16 of July every year since 1947. The objective of this Lantern festival is to comfort souls of soldiers who died of the war. Japan fought against the world 61 years ago. Japanese soldiers fought against the army of "the United States" which was the strongest nation in the world. Almost of Japanese soldiers fought in order to defend people whom they loved from the enemy as well as other countries' soldiers...their mothers, wives, lovers, daughters and sons. When Japanese soldiers left for battlefields, almost of them said to their mothers and families as follows, "Please don't cry,...even if I die, you can meet me at Yasukuni Shrine (Yasukuni Jinja). So that...please see me off in the smile." If you understand about the meaning of these words, and if you understand feelings of so many bereaved families...You should be not able to disregard Yasukuni Shrine any longer. If you are Japanese, it is natural that you express gratitude to Japanese who fought in the war. Because today's peace of Japan exists on their sacrifice.
